A few images from my HUG book.
A self-hug can be an affirmation of belonging. You were meant to be here!
We hug our favorite bathrobe.
A hug can be such a tender touch
A hug with a pet is a shared delight!
A self-hug can express a multitude of things: amusement, survival, gratitude.
And laughter can partner with a self-hug.
Since the age of 9 I've wanted to be an artist. I took many classes in art in middle and high school and, later, attended the Maryland Institute of Art. I lived in Greece for 6 years, teaching art and doing an M.A. in Greek History with the emphasis being on Greek art.
I like to work in printmaking and watercolors. The work in my books, HUG and Pandemic Portraits, features monotypes. My Night Skies book features my watercolors.
In an unexpected way, the Pandemic offered me much inspiration. Part of that was simply because everything else other than my art just came to a stop. I could just use this time to focus on my work. The night skies of Central Oregon have always inspired me. However, during the pandemic I was most attracted to how the people around me felt and looked. That changed my focus from the night skies to doing portraits of people and how they were dealing with these stressful times.
